Bomb Resistant Waste Receptacles
Bomb Mitigation for High Traffic & High Value Facilities

What is this?
Our BRWR are engineered to mitigate blasts of large TNT equivalents . American Innovations, Inc. manufactures the only Bomb Resistant Waste Receptacles successfully tested to a reliable testing standard.
All our bomb receptacles were successfully tested at the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) located in Socorro, New Mexico. Live demonstrations were also conducted at the USMC HQ located in Quantico, Virginia.
These bomb receptacles can also integrate an Anti-Ramming Bollard feature without affecting their outward appearance, waste management functionality, or exposing the increased security function.
Why is this Needed?
Trash Receptacles, which are a necessity for waste management, pose a serious threat to Public Safety considering how easily they can conceal an explosive device planted by a terrorist. The trash receptacle becomes part of the attack and maximizes the intensity of the bomb by spraying shrapnel and fragmentation at great distances. It must also be understood that a terrorist attack utilizing ordinary trash receptacles and remote activated or time delayed explosive devices can be easily coordinated to strike multiple places simultaneously or in stages without exposing the terrorist who will most likely be located at a safe standoff distance

How Does it Work?
- Triple Wall Technology, tested to withstand various capacity explosions (Bottom Center, Sidewall Weld Seam, Sidewall Opposite Weld Seam, and Midpoint) without Horizontal Fragmentation.
- Initial blast is contained horizontally and remaining blast energy is directed vertically.
- Designed with no metal parts of container in the blast path to fragment and become airborne during an explosion. Stainless Steel Top remains attached to the waste receptacle.
- Galvanized edges, walls and drains provide corrosion resistance in most environments.
- Choose from anti-graffiti painted finishes or stainless steel.
- Attractive and durable polished stainless steel top is standard on all models. Top will not discolor from tobacco products and can be cleaned and buffed again and again. Plastic liner accepts multiple garbage bags at the same time, which are easily removed when full. Attendant can easily remove a full bag to prevent an explosive being placed above containment area during peak usage.
- Plastic liners are full capacity thirty (30) and forty (40) gallon, not nominal sizes.
- Flexible internal drainage out of bottom or side. Spillage can also be stored internally for later clean up and wash down.
- Easy on-site placement, leveling, and anchoring with single point pickup and stainless steel anchor, which resists over 4000 pounds of shear (horizontal) or tension (vertical) force.
- Installation and Maintenance instructions included with every order. Technical assistance is also available at no charge via email or phone. On site supervision and/or installation services can be provided for a fee.
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
- Dimensions: 29" Diameter & 37.5" Height (39" with leveling legs extended).
- Designed, built, and tested in the USA using only US purchased materials. Truly BERRY Compliant
- Weight: Starting at 1400 lbs.
- Custom Designed Lifting Tool is provided with every order. Moving and installing these receptacles is simplified with inexpensive, readily available equipment.

Solicitation Recommendations
If you are required to publish a solicitation for bidding purposes, here is the only specification that will ensure fair competition without compromising the security of your facility and the people your bomb receptacles will protect.
Agency __ (Name) ___ is looking to purchase ____ (Quantity) ___ of Bomb Resistant Waste Receptacles. The actual quantity to be purchased may increase or decrease depending on the available budget.
Every vendor is required to submit their two highest rated receptacles and must include with their proposal detailed product specifications, installation instructions, pricing, and their estimated delivery lead-time. Product specifications shall include, at a minimum, dimensions, waste capacities available, finishes available, fluid collection and drainage options, steps required for removal of full waste bags and recommended maintenance.
If a vendor only offers one model with one level of force protection, they are welcome to submit that one model for consideration.
All proposals must include an official test report from a recognized US testing facility that defines; the type and amount of explosives used, the platform or type of surface their product was tested on, and the location(s) within their receptacle(s) the detonation test(s) were conducted. The test report must incorporate post detonation photos and the supporting video footage of the testing is also required.
Send Proposal to ___________________ and contact _______________ with any questions.
Security Notice: Never publicize the location(s) you will be installing bomb resistant waste receptacles and never publicize or share with any outside vendors the exact explosive containment ratings you are considering to or have decided to purchase. Doing so will compromise your security and place defenseless people in harms way.
Ask us about adding a random testing requirement. You will be glad you did!
Testing Criteria & Safety Issues
-
How should a bomb resistant trash receptacle be tested to ensure an accurate explosive containment rating is obtained?List Item 1
Bottom center, side wall weld seam, side wall opposite weld seam, and midpoint center detonations are all essential tests for determining an accurate explosive containment rating. Since we can not control where within a trash receptacle a terrorist is going to drop their explosive device, all four tests are required to obtain an accurate explosive containment rating.
-
What type of explosives were used? How were the explosives packed? And What were the explosives packed inside to ensure an identical explosive charge was used for all four tests?List Item 2
A legitimate test report from a recognized US testing facility will include all this information. Knowing these details will ensure the density of explosives were not manipulated, thus resulting in an inflated and inaccurate explosive containment rating.
-
In addition to testing with C4 or TNT to measure blast energy containment, why should fragmentation containment tests be conducted using pipe bombs?List Item 3
Write a description for this list item and inPipe Bombs pose a serious threat to public safety considering how easily and inexpensively they can be built. Step by step instructions showing how to build pipe bombs can be found on the internet. This increases the threat, beyond terrorist.clude information that will interest site visitors. For example, you may want to describe a team member's experience, what makes a product special, or a unique service that you offer.
-
Is the official test report that supports the bomb receptacle you are considering to purchase from a recognized US testing facility? Does the report incorporate close up post detonation photos and were you provided the supporting video to compare against the report?List Item 4
The only way to determine the legitimacy of a bomb receptacles' containment capabilities is by comparing the test report data, which must include post detonation photos to the supporting video taken during the testing. Knowing people's lives are at stake any time a bomb resistant trash receptacle is deployed, we strongly recommend you contact your local attorneys general office to report any vendor, who is attempting to sell a technology of this nature, without legitimate test reports and supporting videos.
-
What should a bomb receptacle be anchored to during all testing to ensure a real life deployment scenario is created?
In order to simulate an actual deployment scenario, every receptacle should be anchored to a 1" steel slab, that is anchored to a 6" concrete slab, that is anchored to another 1" steel slab. Tests conducted on a dirt surface are extremely misleading because the ground absorbs a major part of the initial blast energy. During a real attack the receptacle will be required to do all the work which is why testing must be conducted on the appropriate surface.
-
Should the top remain attached to the receptacle during all tests? Why is this so important to public safety?
Yes. The test report, close up post detonation photos, and supporting video footage must prove that the top or any component of the same did not fragment and become airborne during testing. Deploying a bomb receptacle whose top will detach during testing, or even worse during a real life attack, defeats one of the main purposes to this technology.
-
Is the garbage liner that holds the trash bags made of a plastic material? Why must bomb receptacles not incorporate a liner made out of some form of metal?
All bomb receptacles must utilize a plastic garbage liner because the liner itself is located in the blast path and will become airborne during an explosion. Allowing components of a metal liner to fragment and become airborne during an explosion, poses a real threat to public safety.
-
Why must all bomb resistant trash receptacles be anchored when they are being deployed?
Bomb receptacles are extremely heavy and during an explosion they could tip, roll, and gain momentum, which creates a serious threat to anybody in their path. Also, if there is a secondary explosive device that does not detonate during the initial explosion, a cannon effect could be created for the second explosion.
